Wildlands & Woodlands: A Unified Vision for the Future of New England’s Forests

On April 20 and 27, New England Forestry Foundation invites you to the first virtual gathering of the Forest-to-Cities Climate Challenge community, which will explore actions community members can take to link climate-smart forestry and mass timber construction in New England. Please join us for this event to get inspired, connect with others, and help inform a strategy for climate action in New England that connects our rural and urban communities in a common goal.
NEFF has created the Forest-to-Cities Climate Challenge to increase support for mass timber and build commitments to sustainable wood construction by asking experts and organizations from related fields, as well as members of the public, to sign our Climate Challenge Pledge and then take action as a network. While our April 2021 webinars will focus on next steps for Forest-to-Cities participants, everyone is welcome to attend.
The first session on April 20 will include an overview of the Forest-to-Cities vision, a guest speaker presentation with follow-up panel discussion, and a bird’s eye view of how our community fits into the growing number of initiatives focused on the carbon footprint of forestry and the built environment. This informational deep-dive will set the stage for the second part of the event on April 27, which will solicit input and insights from webinar participants. We’ll discuss the challenges for accelerating climate-smart forestry and mass timber in the region and then ask for your input on a set of strategies the Forest-to-Cities community could implement to realize its objectives going forward.
After a year and a half of growing the program, this event will mark a new phase for NEFF’s Forest-to-Cities Climate Challenge in which we will leverage your expertise and enthusiasm for forest-based climate solutions in new ways. By the end of the event, we will have developed a set of strategies to guide our work in the program into the future.
