Forest Stories
Learn the history, geography and natural features of NEFF’s unique and beautiful Community Forests.
Whether you want to hike on a crisp fall morning, snowshoe across a pristine stretch of snow, or watch wood warblers and other birds migrate north for the summer, New England forests offer almost endless recreational possibilities.
New England Forestry Foundation (NEFF) owns and uses Exemplary Forestry to manage more than 150 Community Forests across the region. We keep almost all of them open from dawn to dusk for individuals and families to enjoy for free.
Want to head out and explore? Our interactive map of all NEFF Community Forests will help you get on your way. It provides property-specific trail maps you can download, as well information about each forest’s history, recreational opportunities, natural features, and more.
